Location
Karłów - a central location for tourist activities - is a little mountain resort situated in the heart of the Stołowe Mountains National Park at 760 m. above sea level, close to the border with the Czech Republic.
The town was established upon the request of the emperor Charles VI in the year 1730 and is the most convenient starting point to head for Szczeliniec Wielki. This is the highest summit of the Stołowe Mountains (919 m. above sea level). Its amazing observation points look down on Kłocka Valley, the Czech Republic as well as Błędne Skały [Mad Rocks] creating a panoramic of a unique kind. A wide range of interesting forms and a naturally-shaped rock labyrinth startle even the most demanding visitor.
Another place worth seeing is "Śląskie Betlejem" [The Silesian Bethlehem] with a monumental basilica overlooking Wambierzyce. Near Karłów there are the Polish spa towns of Kudowa Zdrój, Duszniki Zdrój and Polanica Zdrój - famous for their scenic and therapeutic qualities. On the Czech side you may also find Adrspach - the "rock town".
